Atira Tan is a TEDx speaker, author, trauma specialist, and activist. Her work focuses on supporting individuals and communities affected by sexual abuse and complex trauma. As a somatic trauma specialist and educator, she supports women, men, and children through private practice and group programmes.
With over two decades of experience in international development, Atira has worked in humanitarian contexts, from refugee camps to disaster zones, and alongside survivors of war, torture, and trafficking. Her work includes advocacy for women’s rights and reproductive health, including with sex-trafficked survivors across Asia and the Pacific. As the founder of Art to Healing, Atira has led initiatives focused on trauma recovery and community support.
Atira worked as the Director of Preparation and Integration at AYA Healing Retreats for 7 years. She is the creator of the Trauma-Informed Plant Medicine Facilitator Training and the Somatic Plant Medicine Integration Program, which have collectively trained over 1,000 graduates, with a focus on safety, ethics, and trauma-informed practice.
Atira collaborates with organisations including ICEERS, Plant Spirit School, Inward Bound, Tam Integration, BMed, Kiyumi, Mind Medicine Australia, and Synthesis, where she serves as a faculty member. She also co-directs the Somatic Psychedelic Facilitator Certificate at The Embody Lab.
Born in Singapore and raised in Melbourne, Atira now resides between Spain and Thailand, as she advances her PhD research at EGS. Her work focuses on trauma-informed care and the integration of plant medicine into modern therapeutic practices.
